Leave Your Mental Baggage Behind
|
|
Notice what thoughts you are bringing into the moment: a memory, a self-image, a worry, a fear, an opinion, a judgment, a desire, a fantasy. Who is it that is able to notice these thoughts? You are what is able to notice your thoughts, the real you.
Your thoughts don't tell the truth about who you are; they only represent the false self. Who you really are is what is aware of thoughts in the mind and aware of everything else. This that you are is conscious of life, wise, loving, and happy to be alive. When you stop believing that you are the one thinking the thoughts and realize that you are the one aware of thoughts, you will find true happiness, peace, and fulfillment. The only thing in the way of this recognition is believing you are the false self instead of the true you.
Really let this sink in, because when you see that your thoughts have nothing to do with you, you will be able to detach from them and stop allowing them to influence your experience of the present moment. It is absolutely safe to leave these images and stories and all the rest of your mental baggage behind. Life goes much better when we do because our natural state is one of wisdom, love, kindness, peace, and acceptance.
Our baggage interferes with everything we really want: love, peace, and happiness. You don't need your thoughts about yourself, about life, and about other people. You don't even need your desires, fears, judgments, or opinions. So you can stop bringing these thoughts into the present moment. You drop your mental baggage--ignore your thoughts--because you see that this mental baggage offers nothing of value, but only takes you away from experiencing the beautiful being that you are and the precious moment that this is.
